about us

We are a group of people who are yearning for deeper meaning in life and believe that it is best found in community.  We believe that our creator God is as active in the world today as ever before, and has invited us to participate in his loving acts through the ways of Jesus.  In addition, we believe gathering for discussion, worship, and mission enables us to become fruitful, and faithful, proponents of God's love in the world.

Our Beginnings
In October of 2007 a small group of us began gathering for worship in the chapel at NLR First United Methodist Church (FUMC).  For many in the group organized "church" had become a thing of the past, but a desire to connect with God was ever present.  Our intention was to re-discover what we had once found life giving about the church, attempt to understand that life more fully, and do the creative work of re-imagining what new life could come about in the future.

After months of gathering for prayer, communion, and discussion, it became evident that God was calling forth new opportunities in our midst.  In cooperation with NLR FUMC and the Arkansas United Methodist Church our growing group has recently been commissioned to plant a new kind of church in the historic district of Argenta.  We pursue this with humility, excitement, and an assurance of God's presence for the journey.

Our Name
Argenta - This historic district in downtown North Little Rock creates a wonderful environment for a church seeking to respond to our emerging culture.  Its creative spirit, sense of community, intrigue of the past, holistic lifestyle, and desire to grow into something new fit perfectly with the characteristics of our church.

United Methodist Church - We are unashamedly part of this denomination.  As part of the United Methodist Church we are able to connect with its rich heritage, resources, and open theology.  Our hope is to genuinely receive the work of the past, interpret it for ourselves, and be committed to helping the denomination grow in who it is socially and theologically.

Our Mission
To be a church that is seeking authentic community, missional living, and a holistic faith; that is striving to connect with God individually and corporately; and desires to become a blessing of God in the world.

Our Hope
Our hope is that if you are seeking a place to belong before you believe, question before you accept, and serve before you receive, that you will join us for one of our worship gatherings, formation groups, or mission projects.
